An electric Florida evening at Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater set the stage for a sentimental, yet exciting event through rock and roll history with icons John Waite, Foreigner, and Styx, delivering a blast to the past with their 70’s and 80’s anthems.

electric Florida evening at Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater set the stage for a sentimental, yet exciting event through rock and roll history with icons John Waite, Foreigner, and Styx, delivering a blast to the past with their 70’s and 80’s anthems.

Opening the night was icon John Waite and his band of seasoned musicians, taking the stage and transporting us all back to the heart of the 80’s. Opening with “Midnight Rendezvous”, a hit song he originally performed with British rock group, The Babys, had the crowd immediately in a groove. Waite’s stage presence was magnetic, effortlessly engaging the crowd with his emotive performance. His set was a perfect blend of ballads and rockers, each song resonating with the audience's memories and emotions. His closing song, “Whole Lotta Love”, by Led Zeppelin, left the audience buzzing, awaiting Foreigner’s arrival to the stage.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, Foreigner took the stage with an explosion of energy, proving why they remain titans of classic rock. I didn’t photograph the band this time around, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this amazing show. Led by lead vocalist Kelly Hansen, the band delivered hit after hit with precision and passion. Upbeat classics like "Juke Box Hero" and "Double Vision" had the entire amphitheater singing along, as well as the iconic ballads such as “I Want to Know What Love Is” and “Waiting for a Girl like You”. Hansen's vocal prowess and boundless charisma kept the energy high, ensuring that Foreigner's performance was a highlight of the night.

Ending the night was Styx, one of my personal favorite bands, a group synonymous with epic progressive rock anthems and elaborate stage productions. From the moment they lit up the stage with "Grand Illusion," Styx commanded the attention of the audience with their well-known harmonies and masterful musicianship. Tommy Shaw and James "J.Y." Young's guitar riffs electrified the amphitheater, while Gowan's theatrical flair and keyboard virtuosity added a vibrant twist to their classic sound. Styx's setlist was a journey through their greatest hits, including "Come Sail Away" and "Blue Collar Man," each song building upon the last with laser light effects and stunning visuals. Their encore, which included “Mr. Roboto” and the iconic “Renegade” left the crowd exhilarated, chanting for more.

In conclusion, the concert at this epic outdoor amphitheater was a celebration of rock 'n' roll's enduring legacy. John Waite, Foreigner, and Styx each brought their unique brand of music magic, creating an evening that resonated with fans of all ages. From heartfelt ballads to electrifying anthems, the concert was a testament to the power of rock to unite and uplift.

If you're a fan of classic rock, this concert was a must-see, showcasing the very best of what these iconic bands have to offer.
